The Macao Port History and Culture Association will host the "Fishermen and Shipbuilding History" boat guided tour in July and August 2014.
Event Overview
This guided tour offers participants the chance to board a fishing boat for an immersive experience. It introduces the past and present of Macao's Inner Harbour, the history of the fishing industry and shipbuilding, traditional crafts, and seafaring stories. The aim is to provide Macao residents with an opportunity to get up close with traditional local industries, absorb local historical knowledge, and strengthen their sense of belonging and local sentiment.
Activity Schedule
- Part 1: Fishing Boat Visit
- Board a fishing boat for a field study.
- Experienced fishermen will explain the history of Macao's fishing industry and the life of fishermen on the water.
- Participate in net weaving with the fishermen.
- Shipbuilding craftsmen from Coloane will introduce the history of shipbuilding, the relationship between shipyards and the geography of Macao, Taipa, and Coloane, the shipbuilding process, craftsmanship, and traditional taboos.
- Part 2: Visit to the Macao Maritime Museum
- Continue exploring Macao's harbour culture by visiting the Macao Maritime Museum.
- The museum houses various navigation tools, historical artifacts, and shares interesting stories about Portuguese navigators landing in Macao and the unique customs of Mazu worship.

- Target Audience: Upper primary to junior secondary school students, school activity groups, or youth organizations
- Group Size Limit: Maximum of 26 people per session (including leading teachers and visiting students)

- Registration: Advance booking required on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration form can be downloaded from the association's website.
