Drama · Singing · Intangible Heritage Experience
Saltwater songs, also known as "vernacular fishing songs," are a form of Macao's intangible cultural heritage. They represent an oral cultural expression used by fishermen for daily communication and entertainment. A short play will simulate real-life fishing scenes and work environments. Through the story of a fishing couple—from their initial attraction to falling in love, understanding, and cherishing each other—it depicts how Macao fishermen in the past used "saltwater songs" to express emotions, describe life, and vent their feelings… presenting the bygone living scenery of fishermen to the audience.
The performance combines a short play and saltwater song singing. On-site, there will be an Intangible Heritage Experience Mini-Classroom teaching the public to hum simple and interesting saltwater songs.
