In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), European missionaries introduced Chinese philosophy, religion, science, technology, and art to Europe. The artefacts were of particular interest to 17th and 18th Century Europeans keen to incorporate Oriental art into their lifestyles, commonly including daily objects, furniture, gardening concepts, and architecture. This exhibition traces the origins of this cultural fascination via approximately 80 paintings, prints, ceramics, and tapestries on loan from French institutions and American connoisseurs.
