About the Exhibition

The 'Exploring Singapore – Colors of Traditional Culture' exhibition is a touring project by the Singapore Philatelic Museum, presented in collaboration with the Macao Communications Museum. Following successful stops in the Philippines and Vietnam, this exhibition arrives in Macao to showcase Singapore's rich cultural heritage and its connections with Macao.

Visitors can explore interactive exhibits, philatelic collections, and photographs that bring to life Singapore's diverse traditions, including vanishing trades, traditional cuisine, and festive celebrations.

Exhibition Highlights

Singapore – Past and Present: Discover the origins of Singapore's name, its founding, and its historical links with Macao.
Singapore's Ethnic Groups: Explore the multicultural society formed by Chinese, Malay, Indian, Peranakan, and Eurasian communities.
Vanishing Trades: Step into scenes of traditional shop houses, clog shops, back-alley barbershops, Indian spice grinders, street hawkers, and performers.
Traditional Singaporean Cuisine: Get a taste of Singapore's mouth-watering local dishes.
Festival Kaleidoscope: Experience the vibrant colors and celebrations of Singapore's major festivals.

Visitor Experience & Activities

The Macao Communications Museum has designed a series of programs for visitors of all ages and backgrounds to experience Singaporean culture from different angles.

Public Programs (No Booking Required)

Ideal for families and friends, these activities include:

Postal Board Game Fun: Play a nostalgic dice-and-board game in the lobby.
Post Yourself – Me & Singapore: Take photos with your own camera at themed backdrops.
Stamp Close-up: View a rotating showcase of Singaporean stamps on the first floor.
My Photo Postcard: Create and mail a postcard with your photo against the exhibition backdrop.
Scented Stamp Workshop: Join a daily hands-on session at 11:00 AM and 3:30 PM on the first floor to create a unique 'scented stamp' using provided spices and an embossing machine.
Treasure Hunt Passport: Collect stamps from different corners of the museum, complete puzzles and matching games in the passport, and redeem a souvenir at the museum shop upon exit.

Tailored programs for school, institutional, and senior groups include:

30-minute Thematic Guided Tour
Optional Hands-on Workshops such as 'Post & Color', '3D Dragon Dance', 'Stamp Magnet', 'Snake Dance', 'Merlion Craft', 'Role Play', 'Scented Postbox', or free activity time.
Inter-school Pen Pal Program: Facilitated by both museums, this program connects local primary school students with their peers in Singapore. Schools are welcome to organize Chinese or English pen pal groups.

Special Holiday Workshops

To celebrate International Children's Day and Singapore's National Day, the museum will host:

Parent-Child Sand Painting Workshop (for teams of 2) on June 1.
Oil Lamp Painting Workshop (for teams of 2) on August 10. These workshops will include special guided tours, free activity time, and a chance to sample Singaporean snacks.
