Caring for children with special needs requires immense dedication and effort from parents, who must also seek various therapies to ensure early detection and intervention during the critical developmental period. To support these families, the Dawn Centre is organizing a series of family support workshops from July to December 2021. These workshops aim to help parents better understand their own and their children's needs, thereby strengthening the parent-child relationship.

Target Participants:

• Family members or caregivers of service users (aged 0–6) at the Dawn Centre.

Workshop Details

Workshop 1: 'Cultivating Focus – Enhancing Young Children's Self-Management' – Occupational Therapy Parent Workshop

• Content:
  • Learn effective methods for children's executive functioning.
  • Understand the elements of training for self-control, focus, and emotional management in children.
  • Master how to improve children's self-control and focus through home-based play training.
• Date & Time: July 30 & August 7, 2021 (10:00–11:30)
• Incentive: Parents attending both sessions will receive a sensory tactile brush.
• Capacity: 20 people

Workshop 2: 'Breaking Through My Speech Development Plateau' – Speech Therapy Parent Workshop

• Content:
  • Master the developmental milestones of children's language development.
  • Learn methods to enhance children's understanding of verbal instructions, expressive language skills, and vocabulary.

Workshop 3: 'Sensory Integration Play at Home' – Occupational Therapy Parent Workshop

Workshop 4: 'Home Games to Promote Language Development' – Speech Therapy Parent Workshop

  • Master the developmental milestones of children's language development.
  • Learn to enhance children's language abilities through play and master play techniques with children.

  • Session 2: November 20 & 27, December 4, 2021
  • Both sessions cover the same content.

Workshop 5: 'From the Heart, Embrace Yourself' – Parent Stress Relief Workshop

• Introduction: Circle Painting, created by American artist Hiep Nguyen, is a relaxing and easy-to-participate activity. The artistic experience of circle painting helps release stress and provides physical and mental relief.
• Content:
  • Learn different methods (Circle Painting) to help manage personal stress and achieve mental well-being.
  • Use the function of painting art to alleviate stress from life and education.

Workshop 6: 'Stress Relief SO EASY' – Parent Stress Relief Workshop

• Introduction: Zentangle® is an easy-to-learn drawing method with therapeutic effects. The focused drawing process brings a state of calm and relaxation, helping to reduce stress.
