This exhibition chronicles the artistic evolution of Véronique Wong Chio Peng, presenting over 35 works that span from the 1970s to 2007. The collection unfolds across several distinct creative periods: her early paintings under the tutelage of masters Tam Che Seng and Chen Shou Soo; evocative sketches capturing the streets of Macau; her pioneering Video Art developed while studying in France; and early, heartfelt Documentary films about Macau's local communities.
Wong's creative trajectory is anchored in a profound contemplation of "existence." Her early works, stemming from the explorations and insights of her youth, delve into the meaning of individual existence. Following her return to Macau, this introspective focus expanded to encompass the broader transformations of the city and its collective consciousness.
The exhibition invites the audience to witness the profound influence these distinct periods had on the artist's creative journey. Through the presentation of her community documentaries, the exhibition aims to create a visual dialogue across generations, allowing viewers to forge a connection with one another, the community, and the enduring power of memory.
Véronique Wong Chio Peng is a media artist whose practice encompasses Video Art, Video Installation, Documentary, Installation Art, Illustration, and Painting. She is also a dedicated children's art educator and arts trainer, with over 25 years of experience in teaching both children and adults.
