Presented by the Macau Sculpture Society, the exhibition "Dream Mnemonics" features the mixed-media installation works of artist Tong Anya, who explores the combination of photography and sculpture. The exhibited installation presents one of the artist's dreams, delving into the connections between time, memory, and the unconscious.
Dreams are passages that transcend time and space, linking consciousness to the deepest parts of the soul. The seemingly bizarre and absurd objects and scenes in dreams resemble symbols formed by various memories, traumas, fears, desires, and obsessions, appearing in the world created during our sleep. However, upon waking, most of us can only recall vague, fragmented pieces and the lingering emotions from the dream—imprints dissolved in the past and permeating the present.
Tong Anya is an artist, designer, member of the Macau Sculpture Society, and member of the Macau Art For All Society. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Design from the University of Melbourne and is currently pursuing a Master's in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. She previously worked as an illustrator for Farrago Magazine and as a sound designer and stage actor for the Australian theater troupe Four Letter Word Theater, participating in projects such as the Melbourne Fringe Festival's 'The Playground' and Mudfest's 'Medusa' play production and design. She has since shifted towards more cross-media artistic creation. Tong has participated in numerous local and international group and solo exhibitions. Her current research focuses on the philosophy of mind and psychoanalysis, with creative forms including installation, performance, photography, and video.
