Ms. Leung Mei Mei, an artist with extensive experience in art education and creation, pioneered a unique art form named 'Paper Thread Embroidery' in 2013 by ingeniously combining the crafts of 'paper lace' and 'embroidery'. She has since introduced this medium into schools to cultivate and inspire students' imagination.
For this 10th-anniversary exhibition, Ms. Leung presents new works inspired by the Dunhuang Murals. The exhibition features twenty-four pieces depicting flying Apsaras, celestial musicians, hand gestures, and the twelve zodiac animals that guard the caves, bringing their divine, dancing, and soaring spirits to life before the audience. The show also presents a decade's worth of works rich in Chinese cultural themes, including dragons, phoenixes, lion dances, and wedding celebrations, capturing joyful real-life scenes with vivid expressiveness through Paper Thread Embroidery.
The gallery specially invited Ms. Leung to exhibit her works that carry 'light'. Behind each piece lies her dreams, perseverance, and mission. We hope visitors will draw strength and encouragement from her creations, believing that the path of creation and fulfillment is always filled with challenges and anticipation.
Leung Mei Mei was born in Hong Kong. She is a senior teacher (kindergarten, secondary, and tertiary adult education) who recently retired as an Art Director and Head of Music. She received the 'Outstanding Arts Teacher Award' from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2012/13 and 2015/16. She has served as an instructor for the Chinese University of Hong Kong's external courses and as the head of the Hong Kong Music Institute Children's Choir, creating several musical performances. She invented 'Paper Thread Embroidery' in August 2013 and continues to promote this art form.
