The Venetian Theatre presents Dóci Papiáçam di Macau (commonly known as the "Dócis") in a special one-night-only performance of 20 ANOS…DÁLE MÁS!!! (20 YEARS…GIVE IT MORE!!!). This exclusive show celebrates the theatre group's 20th anniversary of its founding.
Founded in 1993 by a small group of Macanese, the Dócis were established to revive the traditional Macanese stage comedy performed in the critically endangered Macanese dialect, Patuá. The group debuted in the same year with Olá Pisidente! (Seeing the President!) at the Dom Pedro V Theatre during the visit of former Portuguese President Dr. Mário Soares. Since 1997, the group has participated annually in the Macau Arts Festival, consistently achieving box office records. In recognition of their cultural contributions, the group was awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit by the Macao Government in 2009 and successfully inscribed Theatre in Patuá on the Macau S.A.R. List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012.
This performance is another example of Sands China Ltd.'s support for local creative and cultural groups, providing a platform to showcase local talent. The venue sponsorship also aids in the preservation of Patuá, a UNESCO-classified critically endangered language.
