Overview

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and undertaken by the Windmill Community Art Development Association, the Cultural Lecture Series will host two public lectures in November at the Yizhan venue. Using visual arts as a medium, these lectures explore the humanistic care practiced behind creative works. Citizens aged 13 and above are welcome to register.

Lecture Details

Lecture 1: "Documentaries Also Tell Stories"

• Date: November 13 (Friday)
• Time: 8:00 PM
• Speaker: Documentary director and film festival curator, Lin Jianjun
• Content: Introduces the power of documentary imagery and how it interacts and interconnects with real-life situations. It also explores how film focuses on communities with different cultural and living backgrounds, showcasing their lives, ensuring documentaries do more than just record—they express humanistic care.

Lecture 2: "Self, Gender, and Identity in Contemporary Art"

• Date: November 20 (Friday)
• Time: 8:00 PM
• Speaker: Visual artist, Liang Feiyan
• Content: Focuses on art development in the United States from the 1980s to the present. Through introducing street art, conceptual art, significant art events, and the expressive techniques used by creators, it provides an in-depth analysis of issues such as "self-expression," "personal value," and "identity" that are of concern behind the artworks.

About the Series

The Cultural Lecture Series is a collection of interactive, easy-to-understand lectures covering various fields including local history, visual arts, performing arts, stage design, music, and film. Instructors use everyday life experiences as a guide to introduce different facets of culture through diverse methods. The 2020 Cultural Lecture Series is currently accepting registrations from schools, institutions, and organizations, with topics and times available for free selection.

Health & Safety Measures

To support epidemic prevention efforts, all participants must wear their own masks, undergo temperature checks, and present their personal health code for the day. The event will be arranged according to the health department's guidelines, with corresponding preventive measures implemented.
