In recent years, a wave of enthusiasm for 'board games' has emerged, captivating many young people. While the primary focus is entertainment and socializing, neighboring regions like Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore have successfully integrated 'tabletop games' into liberal arts education. They are used to inspire students' logical thinking, computational skills, and creativity. Communities also utilize the process of playing board games to train adolescents in thought cultivation, language expression, and emotional intelligence. University business programs employ board games as teaching tools, allowing students to experience the fun of trade, commerce, and strategic planning. Some human resources departments even incorporate board games into team-building and resource enhancement projects. This demonstrates that 'tabletop games' can be an effective tool for promoting positive messages and guiding youth learning.
Macau has been actively promoting the 'Cultural and Creative Industries' project in recent years. Although still in the early stages of implementation, Macau's diverse cultural and historical background, combined with ongoing exchanges and learning with neighboring regions, has yielded some visible results. Taking the original 'tabletop game' as an example of a cultural and creative industry, Macau has begun designing plans for 'tabletop games' with local cultural characteristics, based on insights gained from exchanges with Hong Kong. Considering the need to promote positive messages and the importance of moral education in Macau, this symposium explores how to integrate these needs into the 'tabletop game' cultural and creative industry. It also aims to synergize with the development of 'animation (illustration/drawing),' another facet of the current cultural and creative industry.
To this end, we have invited Mr. Au Yeung Hon Ming, a veteran tabletop game designer and professional illustrator from Hong Kong, to Macau for this sharing symposium. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the fun and utility of original 'tabletop games,' inspiring those currently interested in developing within the 'cultural and creative industries.'
