Exhibition Overview
"Contemporary Chinese Freehand Oil Painting Exhibition" has been inaugurated, showcasing over 50 outstanding works by ten representative oil painters from Beijing, Tianjin, Guangdong, and Macau.
"Freehand" (Xieyi) is an artistic genre between realism and abstraction. It is based on the foundation of Western oil painting techniques, combined with the essence of traditional Chinese painting, showcasing local characteristics from ideological and cultural perspectives and highlighting the artist's inner portrayal.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was held at 6:30 PM on January 17th at the Exhibition Hall of the UNESCO Centre. Distinguished guests officiating the ribbon-cutting included:
- Liu Xiaohang, Director of the Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR
- Huang Xingqian, Director of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR
- Fan Di'an, Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association and Director of the National Art Museum of China
- Ung Vai Meng, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government
- Zhong Yi, Member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation
- Liao Zixin, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Macao Daily News
- Dai Shihe, Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and President of the Oil Painting Research Institute of the National Museum of Literature and History of the CPPCC
- Li Ying, President of the Macau Artists Association

Key Speeches & Highlights
- Fan Di'an remarked that Macau's cultural activities are diverse and high-level, introducing art from mainland China and overseas, creating a unique sense of the times. The exhibition not only showcases freehand oil painting but also provides artists opportunities for sketching around Macau, fostering cross-border artistic exchange.
- Dai Shihe noted the special significance of holding an oil painting exhibition in Macau, as it was the first port of entry for oil painting from the West into China. He emphasized the blend of Chinese and Western cultural vitality in Macau.
- Bao Zewei, Director of Zhuhai Guyuan Museum of Art and a participating artist, highlighted Macau's pivotal role in the history of Chinese oil painting development.
