About the Exhibition
This exhibition presents three series of works by French-Swiss artist Nicolas Delaroche.
Featured Series
- First Sight (First Series): Originally titled A Barbarian in China, this photographic series was created during Delaroche's artist residency in China. Using the term "barbarian" as a metaphor for a foreigner observing another civilization, the artist explores and captures his first impressions of a new country. The eighty works in this series are displayed in the atrium, viewable through telescopic windows, recreating the artist's creative process. The series also reflects on his observations of private art collections in Mainland China and Hong Kong, inviting viewers to reconsider the meaning of art display and collection.
- The Rock (New Work): This large-scale inflatable installation, made from white fabric, recreates the desert landscape from the Road Runner cartoon. Placed in the atrium of the Tap Seac Gallery, it invites visitors to walk through it, creating a connection between the audience and the artwork through spatial and bodily experience. This work fully utilizes the unique exhibition space of the gallery.
- The Adventures of Wile E. Coyote in China (Final Series): Inspired by the character Wile E. Coyote from Road Runner, this series combines the artist's personal experiences and reflections, creating a dialogue with the inflatable installation The Rock.
