Different geographical environments nurture distinct artistic temperaments, forming unique painting styles. When these artistic qualities collide and exchange, they always bring us new surprises! Macau is a place where Eastern and Western cultures intersect, accommodating diverse cultures and characteristics. We have specially invited two watercolor painters, Chu Jian and Herman Pekel, to hold a joint exhibition, bringing together two different forms of watercolor from East and West in one place. We hope this joint exhibition will create a high-end platform for artistic exchange.
Chu Jian: Hailing from Qingdao, China, Chu Jian was born, raised, and paints there, deeply loving the city. His works are significantly influenced by traditional Chinese culture. His watercolor creations primarily reflect the urban landscape and customs of Qingdao, imbued with the city's unique cultural imprint. They are expressive and penetrating, representing a typical example of Eastern watercolor.
Herman Pekel: From Australia, Herman Pekel consistently uses concise lines and varied colors in his creations, making his compositions vivid, natural, and full of vitality, constantly showcasing the charm of Western watercolor. His paintings embody an attitude of optimism, humor, persistence, and pragmatism. He also emphasizes sketching, capturing natural scenery and humanistic customs.
