Exhibition Overview
Presented by the Macao Foundation, "British Charm: Oil Painting Art Exhibition by Hu Ruijun" showcases over 60 recent masterpieces by the renowned Chinese-British oil painter Hu Ruijun. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the artist's unique perspective on European landscapes, architecture, and his personal surroundings.
About the Artist: Hu Ruijun
- Born: 1960 in Gansu, China.
- Education: Graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Fine Arts College at Northwest Normal University and subsequently taught there.
- Career: Moved to the UK in 1991. While establishing himself as a talented bamboo flute player with groups like the Grand Union Orchestra, he remained dedicated to painting.
- Major Project: In 2008, he was invited to participate in the "Anglo-Spanish Sea Battle" painting project overseen by the UK House of Lords. His six large-scale oil paintings were completed in 2010, unveiled by Prince Andrew, Duke of York, at the Royal Gallery of the UK Parliament, and are now permanently displayed in the Prince's Chamber of the House of Lords. Hu Ruijun is the first Chinese artist to contribute to a House of Lords-commissioned art project.
Artistic Style
Hu Ruijun's works are characterized by their delicate, intimate scale and unadorned color palette, carrying an academic essence of European landscape painting. His subjects are deeply personal, often drawn from his immediate environment.
- Park & Garden Series: Reflect a tranquil, natural, and almost transcendent quality, infused with a classical Chinese literati spirit.
- Stone Series: A favorite subject, depicted with elegant and细腻 brushwork, revealing an inner strength and philosophical pursuit.
- Western Architecture Series: Includes depictions of landmarks like St. Paul's Cathedral and the Albert Hall in London, rendered with remarkable clarity and realism for direct visual enjoyment.
