The Youth Art Gallery under the Education and Youth Development Bureau will present the "Big Girl's Little Toys: Leong Wai Meng Handmade Jewelry Exhibition" from May 5 to 17, 2015.
This exhibition showcases the handmade jewelry creations of young artist Leong Wai Meng. The primary material used is silver clay, a metal clay material similar to water-based clay. Through processes like shaping, drying, refining, and firing, it transforms into a unique piece of pure silver jewelry. Leong enjoys creating with silver clay because she finds the color of silver unique—neither black nor white—and its inability to be arbitrarily colored allows it to fully reflect her distinctive personality and style. She hopes this exhibition will allow her to share the moving stories behind each piece and the joy of handmade jewelry creation with the audience.
A notable aspect is that during each exhibition, the exhibitor, with the assistance, guidance, and encouragement of the Youth Art Gallery staff, participates in exhibition preparation, promotional material design, and setup. This fully embodies the gallery's mission to provide youth with space for exhibitions and performances to showcase their talents, share creativity, and cultivate creative thinking and self-confidence.
