Autumn is not a specific person or season. For the artist, it is a pure concept and state of existence—a feeling everyone has experienced to some degree. As an artist, to create compelling work, one sometimes intentionally or unintentionally tries to feel sorrow or to get hurt, aiming to produce work that resonates. One such resonance is the "autumn" expressed in this exhibition.
In life, people occasionally find themselves in an inescapable dead end. A sense of stagnation leaves no way out. To mask our weary faces, we discover increasingly made-up versions of ourselves, making it harder to find our truest hearts.
On a night of a full moon, I met a girl also on the edge of desolation. Her name is "Autumn," a personified spiritual world. I fell into the same mental state as "Autumn," and we tried to understand each other. This series of works, through a feminine, whisper-like dialogue, attempts to display the complex, interwoven facets of the human heart.
Through the poetry, fragments, and concepts of local poet He Lingsheng, the exhibition contemplates themes of existence such as family, friendship, life and death, suffering, love and loss, secrets and truth, and sexuality and love. From the mirror-and-lamp relationship between me and "Autumn," it offers viewers an artistic experience of self-discovery and inner reflection.
