About the Competition
The Olympic Mathematics Competition, first held in 1989, is a prestigious and long-standing academic contest known for its fairness, impartiality, and transparency. It is the mathematics competition with the most editions and the longest history. Winners of this annual event often excel in various international mathematics invitation competitions, making it a recognized benchmark for gifted students.
The competition is widely endorsed by educational institutions, academia, and parents as a valuable educational activity worth promoting.
Competition Format
The exam is designed to be creative and logical, focusing on challenging problems that require deep thinking beyond the standard curriculum.
- Section 1: Golden Excellence Mathematics Paper – A basic academic assessment based on grade-level content.
- Section 2: Olympiad Challenge Paper – Focuses on the extension of in-class knowledge, encouraging students to flexibly apply learned mathematical skills.
Over time, the competition evolved to be held twice a year. Team events were introduced from the 48th edition to foster teamwork and collaboration among students. The Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, and Vietnam regions primarily host the odd-numbered individual competition editions.
