April 22nd is Earth Day, a global event promoting environmental awareness. We aim to raise public consciousness about marine plastic pollution through a beach cleanup. This activity highlights the impact of plastic waste on marine life, ecosystems, and human health, encouraging a shift in daily habits to reduce single-use plastics and improve recycling practices to protect our planet.
The most common plastic waste found in oceans and on beaches are everyday disposable items, including plastic straws, foam boxes, plastic bottles, bags, food packaging, and plastic utensils. These items can be ingested by or entangle marine life, hindering their movement. Plastic takes hundreds of years to degrade, potentially breaking down into microplastics that enter the food chain and may ultimately affect human health.
Direct bus routes include 26, 52, 71, and MT4. Several other bus lines serve nearby stops.
