Open Call for Exhibition Proposals
An open competition is being held to select the representative exhibition for the Macau, China pavilion at the prestigious 18th Venice International Architecture Biennale. This initiative aims to encourage breakthroughs and innovation among Macau's architectural talents and increase opportunities for international exchange.
Key Competition Details
- Submission Period: From now until September 20, 2022.
- Eligibility: Open to individuals aged 18 or above. Teams are required to submit inspiring and groundbreaking proposals.
- Exhibition Venue: Selected works will be exhibited in Venice, Italy, in May 2023.
Team Requirements
- Teams must consist of at least two members.
- One member must be the curator.
- At least one member must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in architecture, urban planning, or a related field.
- All team members, except the curator, must be Macau Permanent Residents. The curator may be a non-resident.
Prizes and Selection
A jury committee comprising experts from various regions and representatives from the Cultural Affairs Bureau will evaluate the submissions.
- Gold Award (1): MOP 20,000 prize, certificate, and the honor of representing Macau at the 18th Venice International Architecture Biennale.

About the Venice Architecture Biennale
First held in 1980, the Venice International Architecture Biennale is the world's largest and most influential international architectural event. The 18th edition, curated by Lesley Lokko, adopts the theme "The Laboratory of the Future," envisioning the exhibition as a lab where audiences can imagine the future through contemporary practices. Since 2014, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has organized Macau's participation under the name "Macau, China," achieving notable success over the past four editions.
