Macao-based video creators have the opportunity to exchange with local creators in the Netherlands!

This is an open call for video works on the theme "Chaotic Magic, Successful Magic".

About 1 MOP Cinema

"1 Euro Cinema" is a small-scale "cinematic oracle" journey where you exchange one euro for a machine to randomly select a film for you. The screening machine decides what you will see. You might get great value watching a documentary or be inspired by a one-minute short. The collection features works from over 40 Dutch and international artists/designers, exploring themes like tangible media, new social change, and invisible technology. Curated by Telemagic, it uses new media interactive installations to facilitate visual communication and dialogue between creators from different backgrounds and regions.

This is Telemagic's first such event in Macao, temporarily named "1 MOP Cinema". This special screening will not only showcase existing works but will also feature selected video works from Macao and China obtained through this open call. These new works will be added to the original series for two separate screenings in Macao and the Netherlands.

Amsterdam Exhibition & Prize

"1 MOP Cinema" is scheduled for another exhibition in Amsterdam in the winter of 2019. The screening machine will randomly select three lucky participants to join the live screening event in Amsterdam. The list will be announced at the opening ceremony on July 12, 2019. Each selected participant will receive a travel grant of up to 1,000 Euros.

How to Participate / Submission Guidelines

• Production Year: Preferably completed between 2018–2019.
• Format: .mp4 (H.264 codec), 1080p (16:9) resolution.
• Duration: Between 1 minute to 30 minutes.
• Email Content Required:
  • Personal bio (within 150 words) including contact details (email + phone).
  • Work description (within 200 words, in Chinese or English), briefly explaining the connection to the theme "Chaotic Magic, Successful Magic".
• Submission Method: Combine your personal bio and work description into a single PDF document (under 5MB). Include a download link to your video file uploaded to a cloud storage platform. Email everything to [email protected]. (Ensure the download link does not expire).
• Notification: Participants will receive a unified exhibition message by July 5, 2019.

Telemagic is a collective consciousness surfing experimental group from the Netherlands that attempts to demystify electronic technology and make it reasonably understandable. Members include Cyanne van den Houten, Roos Groothuizen, and Ymer Marinus. They call themselves an open media lab, experimenting and exploring future media through creative making and artistic innovation.
