About the Workshop
Beyond 'watching' and 'performing', we can also 'create' our own language. Puppet and object alternative theatre is a cross-disciplinary field encompassing handicrafts, multimedia, visual arts, and performing arts. In this unique realm, lighting is not just for illuminating the stage, objects are not merely props, and sound, painting, and imagery can all transform into protagonists, standing alone to 'tell your story'.
Workshop Structure
The 3rd Puppet & Object Theatre Workshop Series is divided into two major phases:
I. Concept x Creation Class: Puppet • Illustration • Lighting • Sound • Projection
This phase continues the past workshop series, with each module focusing on three training pillars:
- Creative Concept
- Practical Application
- Creative Exercise
II. Practice Class: Collective Devising for Puppet & Object Theatre Performance
This class is designed for advanced students interested in creating performance works. It involves a Research & Development stage based on a specific theme. Tutors will guide students through the techniques of devising alternative theatre, including story discovery, experimenting with puppet/object manipulation, body, sound, lighting, imagery, and writing, refining imagination and expression, selecting creative materials, and developing potential performance elements to create a personal performance piece related to the theme.
