About Wood Lattice Windows
During the Han and Tang dynasties, Chinese-style windows were introduced to Japan. Japanese craftsmen added thin vertical and horizontal components to the Chinese window design, forming the framework for window panes, shoji screens, and pillars. These thin components are called 'Kumiko'.
When you delve into observing and studying Kumiko joinery, you'll discover it is a highly intricate decorative art of fine woodworking. Its openness to creativity, diversity, and complexity challenge both skilled craftsmanship and imagination.
