To cultivate the interest and appreciation of Cantonese opera art among the younger generation and promote the development of Cantonese opera in Macau, the Macau Federation of Neighborhood Associations (街坊總會) launched adult and youth Cantonese opera training classes last year, enrolling nearly 90 students.
Professional instructors with years of experience teach the performance art skills of Cantonese opera, including singing, acting, recitation, and martial arts.
Students have opportunities for stage practice through various activities such as the New Year's Celebration for the Elderly, National Day Cantonese Opera Special, Macau Handover Anniversary Cantonese Opera Special, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Cantonese Opera Art Exchange Summer Camp. These events allow local students to perform on stage and exchange skills with masters from other regions, fostering local Cantonese opera performance talents.
Due to enthusiastic responses from students and citizens, the Federation continues to offer the year-round Cantonese Opera Adult and Youth Training Courses this year. All Cantonese opera enthusiasts are welcome to participate.
