Is there really a "generation gap"? Is the K-Pop craze just a coincidence? Join us for a special lecture series exploring intergenerational relationships and the making of the K-Pop era.
Speaker: Dr. Alvis Lo Iek Long, President of the Macau New Chinese Youth Association
Speaker Bio: Dr. Alvis Lo holds a Doctorate in Clinical Medicine from Sun Yat-sen University, a Master's in Geriatric Medicine from the University of Hong Kong, and a Master's in Clinical Medicine from Peking University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, a specialist in respiratory medicine in Macau, coordinator of the Dementia Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and President of the Macau New Chinese Youth Association.
Topic Introduction: With Macau's aging population projected to exceed 20% by 2036, nearly half of the elderly currently live with their children. This session explores the inevitable differences in behavior, lifestyle, and values between generations. Is "easy to meet, hard to live with" an accurate portrayal? The speaker, both a medical specialist and a youth leader, will share insights on connecting youth and elderly services to foster communication, understanding, and respect, aiming to build an inclusive society for all ages.
Speaker: Staty Chan Chi Weng, Convener of the Cultural Policy Concern Group, Macau New Chinese Youth Association
Speaker Bio: Staty Chan majored in Library and Information Science at Wuhan University. He has worked as a researcher at Cheil Worldwide (Samsung's agency) and participated in information research and data analysis projects for Wuhan University, Baidu, and IBM. He is currently a librarian in the Special Collections Group at the Macau University of Science and Technology Library, a director of the Macau Library and Information Management Association, and Convener of the Cultural Policy Concern Group of the Macau New Chinese Youth Association.
Topic Introduction: K-Pop has taken the world by storm. Who are the true Korean pop kings? Big Bang or EXO? Did Girls' Generation really start an era? With major agencies like SM, YG, and JYP dominating, can others like DSP and FNC compete? This lecture uses data mining and analysis, exploring various rankings, data, and the history of Korean cultural development to investigate if there is a definitive formula for success.
