"I want to be on TV too!"
After his grandfather's death, the orphaned Xiao An decides to "buy" a new companion for himself—a television set! He then discovers that everyone in his village has appeared on the local news for trivial matters. Determined to become a news figure himself, Xiao An goes to great lengths to achieve his goal. Finally, he climbs the tallest tree outside the village and says something that shocks the entire community... Will Xiao An succeed in getting "on TV"? How is a news personality created?
Breaking free from traditional theatrical frameworks to create a TV box outside the box. Adapted from the short story by Franz Kafka Prize-winning Chinese author Yan Lianke, the production employs popular European object and puppet theatre techniques to create a rich imaginative space. Combined with multimedia imaging technology, it crafts a multi-layered theatrical space and visual effects. The performance intertwines actors, puppets, objects, and live-generated stage imagery, navigating the similar yet different worlds inside and outside the theatre, reflecting the reality and magic of our own generation.
A major contemporary Chinese writer, hailed as a "Master of Absurdist Realism." His works are rich in symbolism, blending black humor with profound critical spirit. In 2014, he was selected as the winner of the Franz Kafka Prize, often seen as an indicator for the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first Chinese writer to receive the award. He has also won the first and second Lu Xun Literary Awards, the third Lao She Literary Award, and Malaysia's "Hua Zong" World Chinese Literature Award. His works have been shortlisted for the French Prix Femina and the International Booker Prize. His works have been translated into over 20 languages including Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Czech, and Serbian, and published in more than 20 countries and regions.
