Ever wanted to make a ceramic cup with your own hands? Or give a handmade gift to your family or friends? This workshop, led by a Macao Master of Arts and Crafts, will introduce you to the origins of wood-fired pottery. Participants will try their hand at making a ceramic cup, sparking imagination and creativity while enjoying the fun of pottery making.
Wood-fired pottery refers to ceramic ware fired directly in a kiln using wood as fuel. Pieces can be glazed or unglazed. This ancient technique is highly challenging, with strict requirements for clay, wood, and kiln fire, often requiring several days and nights of firing. From the entirely handmade creation of the clay body to the complex kiln design, high fuel consumption (over ten times that of a gas kiln), labor, firing technique, and low success rate, the process is demanding. Consequently, such pieces are rare on the market and are primarily appreciated and collected by seasoned tea enthusiasts or connoisseurs.
