World Mathematics Invitational (WMI)
World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) is an international mathematics competition that brings together organizations dedicated to promoting mathematics from countries and regions including the United States, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Macau, Iran, Bulgaria, India, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Australia, Brazil, Turkey, and Laos. The finals are held in a different country each year, gathering mathematical elites from around the world to respond and participate together, allowing students to step onto the international mathematics stage, exchange ideas with mathematical elites worldwide, broaden their global perspective, and strive for glory!
The "WMI World Mathematics Invitational" enables countries to exchange mathematics teaching experiences, improve the quality of mathematics education, discover more outstanding mathematical talents, and nurture them. It allows students to stimulate their interest in learning, enhance their mathematical problem-solving abilities, and gain a sense of achievement through the competition process. All participants can use the "WMI World Mathematics Invitational" platform for self-assessment, broaden their horizons, and face future challenges. For students, it is an international event with profound significance.
Key Information
- Eligibility: Students who advance from the preliminary round are eligible to join the Macau representative team, exchange and compete with mathematics enthusiasts from around the world, showcase their talents, and bring honor to Macau.
- Exam Format: The preliminary contest paper consists of two parts: logical thinking and applied operations. The language options are Traditional Chinese and English.
- Grading: All final exam papers are graded collectively by professional mathematics teachers from various countries, ensuring an extremely fair, just, and open competition.

- 2020-2022: During the pandemic, representatives from each participating region completed the competition locally. WMI Macau team members held the finals in Macau.
Competition Participants (2022-2023 Academic Year)
- Kindergarten students (6 years old or younger)
- Primary school students from Grade 1 to Grade 6 (one group per grade)
- Secondary school students from Grade 1 to Grade 6 (one group per grade)
Macau Preliminary Awards
- Gold Award: 5%
- Silver Award: 15%
- Bronze Award: 25%
Competition Process
- Preliminary Round → Gold, Silver, and Bronze award winners qualify for the Macau representative team and can directly register for the 2023 WMI World Mathematics Invitational Finals.
- Some outstanding performers, after a re-screening round meeting the final score requirements, can register for the 2023 WMI World Mathematics Invitational Finals.
