About the Macau String Association
The Macau String Association is dedicated to elevating the performance standards and techniques of local string musicians. It fosters musical exchange and friendship among members, enhances the teaching quality of local string instructors, and strives to create a superior learning environment for the next generation. The association provides performance opportunities, event information, and consultation services for its members, while also assisting local institutions in organizing string exchange events, workshops, and lectures. Since its establishment, the association has been committed to promoting and developing Macau's music scene with a focus on string music.
About Vincent Lu Jia
Vincent Lu Jia (Macau/Hong Kong) began studying cello at the age of 8 under the tutelage of several professors from the Central Conservatory of Music, including Zhou You, Zhu Yongning, Song Tao, Chen Yuan, and Ma Wen. During his studies in Europe, he studied under German cello master Claus Kanngiesser and Austrian cello master Valentin Erben, graduating with the highest distinction (Auszeichnung) from the Cologne University of Music and Dance and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Master of Cello Performance). His artistry has been profoundly influenced by Austrian cello master Heinrich Schiff.
- Awards: Winner of multiple gold medals in international solo and chamber music competitions.
- Soloist Career: Has performed cello concertos with numerous internationally active conductors.
- Chamber Musician: Has shared the stage with world-renowned ensembles such as the Alban Berg Quartet and the Tokyo String Quartet. His group, the Pacific Quartet Vienna, is a long-term partner of international institutions like the Menuhin Foundation and the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA).
- Orchestral Experience: Served as principal cellist for the Jenaer Philharmonie and the Aachen Theater Symphony Orchestra (2008-2013). Also served as a cello teacher at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar during this period.
- Current Role: Has been the principal cellist of the Macao Orchestra and a cello teacher at the Macao Conservatory since November 2013.
- Educator: Passionate about cello education, many of his students have represented Macau in international competitions and won numerous awards.
- Media: His performances have been archived and broadcast by media outlets including Austrian National Radio (ORF) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).
- Jury Member: Serves on the jury for several international music competitions.
