Ox Warehouse presents two special extended performances as part of the exhibition "Various Possibilities: When Polish Poetry Comes to Macau," co-organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Ox Warehouse. The event features a unique poetry performance and a documentary screening, offering a deep dive into the world of renowned Polish poets.
"Szymborska · Różewicz · Macau" (Poetry Performance)
Performer Bio: Paweł Górecki (born 1960) is a Polish photographer and performance artist. Over the past decade, he has performed in Poland, France, Norway, Canada, and has led performance art workshops. Since 2009, he has been dedicated to promoting Taiwanese and Asian culture and arts in Poland. He is currently the head of Trans-Pacyfik Studio Sp.z.o.o.
Performance Description: Wisława Szymborska and Tadeusz Różewicz are among the most important Polish poets of the 20th century and witnesses to Poland's turbulent history. Wartime experiences profoundly influenced their work, yet Chinese-speaking readers know little about the historical and social context of these poets. In this performance, Polish artist Paweł Górecki will use storytelling, music, poetry recitation, and projections to narrate this history to the Macau audience, seeking various possibilities for dialogue between the works of these Polish poets and Macau culture.
"Szymborska: The End and the Beginning" (Documentary Screening)
Film Synopsis: Polish poet Wisława Szymborska was always careful to protect her private life. Everything she wanted to say about herself can be found in her poems; she did not discuss her poetry and spoke even less about herself. Therefore, it is a remarkable achievement that director John Albert Jansen managed to meet her twice at her home and have candid conversations with this brilliant and witty lady. This documentary also features other distinguished figures from Polish cultural circles sharing their insights on Szymborska.
