Macau Special Olympics and T Theatre jointly present the "Co-Think, Co-Live" Community Arts Project, featuring the school tour of Tomorrow Seems Far Away. This event aims to promote community inclusion by showcasing the artistic talents of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Tomorrow Seems Far Away is a performance piece. A group of individuals constantly hopes to recreate yesterday's performance tomorrow, but they have no control over this. The person who decides whether they can perform is someone else, whom they cannot find. Each day, they await tomorrow's arrival, resorting to rituals to pray for this person's appearance. Slowly, these rituals become their daily routine, and this routine behavior becomes part of the performance itself. It's a show about daily anticipation for tomorrow. In preparation, they have rehearsed classic Cantonese opera, prepared to share a journey to space, and choreographed the dance steps of their lives, all to be ready to welcome his arrival at any moment.
Through appreciating the performances by individuals with intellectual disabilities, the event allows students to appreciate and learn more about the artistic potential of people with different abilities in society. It encourages them to contemplate the possibilities of art, thereby broadening the spectrum of community inclusion. The goal is to foster a positive public perception of the similarities and differences of individuals with intellectual disabilities, achieving mutual understanding and appreciation, and jointly promoting the development of local community inclusion. Simultaneously, it provides performing participants with more opportunities to be seen, boosting their confidence and sense of achievement, allowing them to contribute to society through their own abilities and efforts.
