Adapted from the memoir Toast by the renowned British chef Nigel Slater, this film is a personal account of his life. The story follows Nigel's journey from childhood to adolescence, exploring the world of 1960s food and tasting the full spectrum of life's flavors—sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy.
Nigel falls in love with food from a young age; the meals at home ignite his appetite. He loves reading cookbooks and wandering through different shops. However, his mother's death leaves him heartbroken for a long time. Mrs. Potter wins the affection of Nigel's father with her delightful lemon meringue pie. A constant rivalry ensues between Nigel and Mrs. Potter, and only after his father's passing can Nigel bravely venture to London to truly open up the world of food.
