No cheerful yodeling, no Saint Bernard dogs and girls running through the mountains, and certainly no Walden-esque tranquility. A nineteen-year-old sleepwalking girl has her home destroyed by war and seeks refuge with her uncle, who runs a hotel by a deep mountain lake. He demands her help in turning the dilapidated hotel into a tourist hotspot. The sudden return of her cousin intensifies the already strained relationships. In the thin air of the South American Andes, something solidifies and transforms. Like rising fog, it obscures more than just a beautiful face.
In his directorial debut, William Vega demonstrates extraordinary directorial skill and frame aesthetics, paying homage to Tarkovsky from afar. The film won Best Film at the Toulouse Film Festival and Best Cinematography & Special Jury Prize at the Lima Latin American Film Festival.
