Join us for a talk with Hong Kong independent journalist Chan Hiu Lui on her new book series 'Hong Kong Goodbye'. Through the lens of disease and death, the event explores how Hong Kong views life and how society can work together to make the final journey a 'good goodbye'.
All proceeds will be used to support the speaker's independent journalism work and new book publication.
Chan Hiu Lui is a Hong Kong independent journalist. Her book 'Wasted Food' won the 'Open Book Award' for Chinese Creative Writing and spurred over thirty organizations in Hong Kong to focus on food waste issues. In recent years, she has focused on reporting end-of-life issues in Hong Kong. Her new work, the 'Hong Kong Goodbye' series, has also sparked social discussion.
The series—'Hong Kong Goodbye: How to Care?', 'Hong Kong Goodbye: Is There a Choice?', and 'Living Will'—is the result of three years of self-funded investigative journalism by Chan Hiu Lui, comprising over 300,000 words. It explores issues of late-stage medical care and nursing in Hong Kong.
Come and show your support for independent journalists, independent media, and independent publishing!
Solution Journalism not only uncovers problems but also emphasizes reporting on solutions, enabling society to focus and unite to bring about change. Hong Kong journalist Chan Hiu Lui has been dedicated to this practice for years. Her reporting has spurred social actions like food recovery, green living, and life-and-death education. Last year, she also founded 'Continue Reporting', a support organization for independent journalists, and 'Big Silver', an organization addressing Hong Kong's aging population.
