Hong Kong Repertory Theatre brings its multi-award-winning production of The Father to Macau audiences. The original play Le Père was written by young French playwright Florian Zeller. Its ingenious dialogue structure portrays the father's regression through different stages, allowing the audience to experience the heart-wrenching emotional torment of the characters, reflecting how this illness has become a widespread problem plaguing modern society. The play won the Molière Award for Best Play in 2014 and has been staged by world-class theatre companies in New York, London, Sydney, and elsewhere.
This Cantonese version is produced by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. It specially invited its former Artistic Director, Fredric Mao Chun-fai, to play the role of the father, and features a stellar cast of veteran actors including Angela Pang Hang-ying and Alice Lau Nga-lai. This production won four major awards and received five nominations at the 27th Hong Kong Drama Awards. This star-studded cast delivers a nuanced performance of this tense ethical tragicomedy, offering a thought-provoking and emotionally complex stage experience.
