The St. John's Festival, also known as the Feast of St. John, is a traditional Portuguese celebration. In Macao, the festival holds a deeper historical significance, commemorating the successful defense of Macao against a Dutch invasion on June 24, 1622. After being suspended for many years, the celebration was revived through the joint efforts of several local organizations.
This year's festival spans an entire weekend, featuring over 30 stalls offering products from the local Portuguese community, including traditional Portuguese handicrafts and specialty foods. The event will also be enlivened by performances from various local dance groups and bands. Portuguese folk singer Sebastião Antunes will perform at the celebration.
