This workshop will employ a series of theatre games and exercises (primarily from the "Theatre of the Oppressed" training system) to encourage participants to release physical and mental stress, explore the infinite possibilities of physical expression, and engage in the organization and sharing of community experiences. It also fosters care and discussion on public affairs, helping participants understand the connection between theatre, the individual, and society.
This workshop is particularly suitable for artists, social workers, teachers, and other interested individuals who are engaged in community theatre work or wish to introduce dramatic elements into social work.
Lai Shu-ya has been involved in community theatre work since 1993, accumulating over two decades of experience. Beyond deep involvement in community theatre training and performances, she has collaborated with dozens of non-profit organizations, community groups, schools, and NGOs both domestically and internationally, using theatre for grassroots empowerment, training, and education.
Since 2005, she has been invited by the Council for Cultural Affairs (predecessor of the Ministry of Culture) to develop community theatre policies and has planned and executed numerous nationwide community theatre promotion programs, laying important theoretical and practical foundations for local cultural bureaus. In recent years, in addition to practical workshops in community theatre, she has also produced Taiwan's first professional "Forum Theatre" performances (originating from Theatre of the Oppressed), encouraging audiences to rationally discuss public issues during the performance, intervene on stage, and change the protagonist and society through performative action. Whether in community theatre workshops or professional forum theatre performances, her work consistently explores and experiments with the possibilities of connecting theatre with society and fostering dialogue.
