Extreme weather is becoming more frequent, and the climate crisis is being felt globally. To help address climate change and food shortages, World Vision is intensifying relief efforts in many countries with severe hunger issues. At the same time, we continue to employ a low-cost tree management technique – Farmer Managed Natural Reforestation (FMNR) – to help farmers in multiple countries restore degraded farmland, aiming to increase food production in the long term, alleviate the food crisis, and improve carbon emissions.
Tony Rinaudo, Chief Climate Action Advisor for World Vision Australia and founder of FMNR, has introduced and promoted this technique over the past 40 years. He and his team have successfully helped 27 countries across Africa and Asia, miraculously reviving millions of hectares of land. For this contribution, he received the 2018 Right Livelihood Award (also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize) and the 2022 Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation Global Love of Life Award. Oscar-winning German director Volker Schlöndorff even made a documentary about him titled The Forest Maker. This June, Tony Rinaudo will travel to Macau specifically to share with residents the topic of addressing climate change and how FMNR can restore the environment, mitigate climate change, and protect the future of the next generation.
We sincerely invite you to participate in the 2024 "Reviving Farmland, Rebuilding Hope" seminar. Together, let's focus on the global issue of climate change, understand how FMNR can reverse damage and green barren land, and collectively address the climate change crisis to help affected children and families overcome their difficulties.
