Overview

To continuously implement the environmental policy of resource recycling and reuse, the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) continues to organize the 'Red Packet Recycling Campaign' during the Lunar New Year period. The campaign promotes the eco-friendly message of 'Use Fewer New Ones, Reuse More, Don't Waste' to the public, encouraging the reuse or recycling of old red packets to reduce paper waste.

Past Achievements

Over the past two years, with the enthusiastic participation of Macau citizens and strong support from all sectors of society, approximately 3.63 million red packets were collected. After sorting, about 1.66 million were deemed suitable for reuse.

2019 Campaign Details

• Reusable Red Packet Distribution: Starting January 19, 2019, the DSPA will distribute reusable red packets (sorted from last year's collection) to citizens for free. For specific distribution points, please refer to the linked PDF.
• Red Packet Collection Points: From February 10 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year) to February 28, collection points will be set up across all districts of Macau. Citizens are encouraged to drop off used red packets that are intact and in good condition for recycling and reuse.
• Recommendation: It is advised to keep any brand-new, unused red packets for future use.

Sorting Guidelines for Efficiency

To improve sorting efficiency, please dispose of the following types of red packets as general waste paper for recycling:

• Those with glued seals
• Those with staples or staple marks
• Those with writing or drawings
• Those that are wrinkled, worn, or damaged
