The youth literary magazine 'Hong Dou' (Red Bean) was a significant local mimeographed literary publication in Macau during the 1960s. For decades, while many researchers knew of its reputation, few had the chance to see the actual publication.
In recognition of its established literary and historical value, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has decided to reprint a faithful facsimile edition of 'Hong Dou'. Furthermore, the Bureau commissioned Loi Chu Leng, the Interview Director of 'New Generation', to interview individuals involved in the original editing of 'Hong Dou'. These interviews have been compiled into an article titled 'Recalling Red Bean', which is included as an appendix in the reprinted volume.
To celebrate this publication, a launch ceremony and symposium for the book 'Red Bean in the Desert: Reprint Edition of the Youth Literary Magazine 'Hong Dou'' will be held. This event is a must-attend for anyone interested in the history of Macau's literary scene.
