Recycle Lucky Red Envelopes GoodEASY 2023
To consistently implement the environmental policy of resource recovery and recycling, the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) continues to organize the "Recycle Lucky Red Envelopes GoodEASY" campaign during the Lunar New Year period. The initiative promotes the environmental message of "Use less new, reuse more, don't waste" to the public, encouraging the reuse or recycling of old red envelopes (lai see) to reduce paper waste.
Campaign Impact
- Over the past six years, with enthusiastic public participation and strong support from all sectors of society, approximately 11.38 million red envelopes have been recycled.
- After sorting, around 3.15 million red envelopes were deemed suitable for reuse.

- The public is encouraged to practice environmentalism by recycling intact, used red envelopes.
- Recommendation: Keep any brand-new, unused red envelopes for future use.
Sorting Guidelines for Efficiency
To improve sorting efficiency, please do not place the following types of red envelopes in the special collection points; recycle them as general waste paper instead:
- Red envelopes with glued flaps or seals.
- Red envelopes with staples, staple holes, or written marks.
- Red envelopes that are wrinkled, old, torn, or otherwise damaged.
