The topic of this Ox Warehouse Talks series is "Editing and Publishing," not confined solely to independent or art publishing, though all four speakers are related to these fields. The discussion broadens to the topic of editing and publishing in general. As these are all small-scale productions, the editors or artists involved often take on multiple roles, including writing, interviewing, design, photography, promotion, administration, and sales.
In the face of a declining print publishing industry, there is a need to simultaneously manage online promotion and distribution, even transitioning to online articles and e-books. Of course, the tactile quality and scent of printed paper cannot be compared to an electronic screen, which is also a driving force behind continuing to publish. Independent art publishing means not following market trends. In the absence of manpower, networks, and resources, independent thinking, the depth of content, and its ability to inspire readers are the most important values of a book.
