Once, Macau's garment industry, with tens of thousands of households engaged in manual labor, supported the city's export value in the 1970s and 80s. However, after 2003, casinos and hotels rose one after another, and these memories of sewing gradually frayed and faded from view.
How do we trace back the many memories surrounding the sewing machine?
This workshop invites two senior editors from Taiwan's "Walker Culture" to Macau to lead the sessions. They will guide participants in learning the skills of oral history interviewing and writing. Through a series of collaborative workshops emphasizing exchange and interaction—such as interviews and exhibition tours—the facilitators will help participants confront themselves, delve into their personal motivations for participation, and explore the interconnected narratives of garment-making stories with industry, city, and even the world.
Let's become important partners for each other, retrieving the splendid garments that Macau once collectively sewed from the scattered fragments of memory!
