About the Performance
A picnic at the cemetery? It might sound like a strange idea, but when you have 'nothing to do', why not give it a try? It's a place everyone will eventually visit, and it might turn out to be unexpectedly fun. As the saying goes, 'the early bird catches the worm'—so why not experience it early and enjoy it sooner? This moving, humorous, and eerie performance is based on a piano, violin, and cello trio, performing original compositions by Macao musician Yeung Kwong Kei. Through installations, film, and physical elements, it creates a unique atmosphere for a casual chat with the audience about life and death.
Performance History
- 2013: Premiered at the Macao Arts Festival, held at the live house LMA to challenge audiences' preconceptions of contemporary classical music.
- 2014: Participated in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, receiving high praise from critics. Ranked 84th out of nearly 4,000 productions and was listed by The British Theatre Guide as a must-see show of the Fringe.
- 2015: Toured to Taiwan and Portugal.
- To date, the production has visited 11 cities and performed 56 shows.
After three years of refinement, 'Nothing to Do at the Graveyard' returns in 2016, presented at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Theatre. The work has been repackaged with new musical pieces to once again challenge the senses of Macao audiences.
