Many people dream of traveling the world, but what is the purpose? To sample all the world's delicacies? To take countless 'like'-worthy selfies? To indulge in endless shopping?
Macau's active environmentalist, Chan Chun Meng, gave up a coveted government job and left his family behind to embark on a nearly ten-month journey around the globe. He traveled from the world's highest point (the Himalayas) to its lowest (the Dead Sea), and from the northernmost (the Arctic Ocean) to the southernmost (Antarctica), visiting both the wealthiest and poorest regions. His mission was to explore the stories and relationships between humans and nature across the planet, while also reflecting on the development of his own city—Macau, the 'gaming capital'—from a global perspective.
Chan Chun Meng is a biology teacher and environmental activist. In recent years, from the campaign to protect Seac Pai Van Hill to the controversy over the Long Van Pou Un Ecological Pond, voices for nature conservation in Macau have grown louder. In numerous environmental actions, his presence has been notable. He has served as an ecology teacher, leading citizens to learn about Seac Pai Van Hill; he has submitted letters to the government expressing concerns about the impact of building the ecological pond; and he has initiated the 'Macau Food Festival Eco-Dining Instant Sorting Campaign' to address environmental issues arising from the food festival.
