一戲一格 kicks off the Year of the Rat with a bang, presenting a dark comedy for everyone.
A mysterious housing contract reveals a twisted revelation of human nature. The wildly hilarious plot features the comedic talents of Yeung Ying-ying and Yeung Ban, alongside the long-awaited return of Au Mung-chau, creating explosive chemistry on stage.
Yeung Ying-ying and Yeung Ban play a poor couple, distressed by their soon-to-be-born baby. One day, they receive a letter from a supposed government official (played by Au Mung-chau) – an invitation to a development zone where they can move into a "two-story villa" with "zero down payment" and "zero monthly payments"!
However, once the wheel of fate starts turning, an old villa needing renovation, an unexpected homeless intruder, and a sharp door hook bring earth-shattering changes to their ordinary lives.
But is the contract truly a government welfare policy? A measure to cleanse the "low-end" population? Or a farce of distorted humanity? The play, originally titled "Radiant Vermin" by British playwright Philip Ridley, premiered in 2015. It uses a devil's bargain to precisely express the absurdity of the modern world – the funnier it gets, the more trouble it brings!
This performance is funded by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government.
