Musical: Cafe at 22° North Latitude Returns
A heartwarming musical production that brings together creative talents from Macao, Malaysia, and Taiwan.
About the Show
- Premiere: First staged in Taiwan in 2017.
- Cantonese Version: Successfully launched in Macao in 2019 to sold-out audiences.
- 2022 Revival: Returns with a fresh cast and renewed energy.
The story is set in a Macao coffee shop, weaving together the experiences and personal dilemmas of its diverse patrons, reflecting the myriad facets of life. Life can be as bitter as an espresso, revealing its complexity upon careful taste, or as sweet as a mocha, offering simple warmth with every sip. Sweetness, sourness, bitterness, joy, sorrow, parting, and reunion—these are the inevitable themes of life. Every encounter in this vast world is a matter of fate.
The narrative follows Ah Lok, who works at the "Cafe at 22° North Latitude." The cafe hosts a variety of customers: a cheerful yet mysterious elderly lady, a couple with communication issues about to become parents, a surgeon seeking to prove his worth, an unrecognized musician, a cafe manager labeled a "leftover woman" after failed matchmaking, and a young girl preparing to study abroad. Each has their own issues to resolve. Their interactions within the cafe gradually help Ah Lok understand what he truly wants to pursue in life.
