The wait is over! The official announcement for the 2nd 'Mindful Pen' Original Short Story and Four-Panel Comic Competition is here.
This competition, hailed as Macao's most professional comic contest, invites all local comic lovers to test their skills. To enhance the rigor and professionalism of the event, the judging panel will consist of the senior editorial team from Tong Li Publishing (Hong Kong). In addition to generous cash prizes, winning works will be published on Tong Li's website, with potential for further collaboration.
Competition Details
- Objective: To enhance the expressive abilities of comic enthusiasts and unleash their creative potential and imagination through the process of comic creation.
- Eligibility: Holders of a valid Macao Resident Identity Card. No restrictions on gender or age.
- Categories: The competition is divided into two groups:
- Short Comic Group
- Four-Panel Comic Group
Submission Requirements
Short Comic Group
- Size: A4 (210mm x 297mm) or B5 (182mm x 257mm)
- Format: Hand-drawn or digital art (CG) accepted
- Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI (scanned hand-drawn works must also meet this)
- Color: Black & white or color accepted
- Theme: Any original theme. No derivative works (fan art) accepted.
- Length: 8 to 20 pages
Four-Panel Comic Group
- Size: A4 (210mm x 297mm) or B5 (182mm x 257mm)
- Format: Hand-drawn or digital art (CG) accepted
- Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI (scanned hand-drawn works must also meet this)
- Color: Black & white or color accepted
- Theme: Any original theme. No derivative works (fan art) accepted.
- Length: Minimum of 2 comics, with 4 panels per comic (layout is flexible).
Judging & Prizes
- Judges: Professional editors from Tong Li Publishing Group (Hong Kong) Ltd.
- Prizes (Cash & Gifts): Champion, 1st Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up for each group.
- Short Comic Group:
- Champion: MOP 3,000
- 1st Runner-up: MOP 2,000
- 2nd Runner-up: MOP 1,000
- Four-Panel Comic Group:
- Champion: MOP 1,500
- 1st Runner-up: MOP 1,000
- 2nd Runner-up: MOP 800
Submission Guidelines
- Method: Submit entries via email to [email protected].
- Limit: One submission per person, per group.
- Email Subject: Must be '漫筆經心-原創短篇漫畫比賽' (for Short Comic) or '漫筆經心-原創四格漫畫比賽' (for Four-Panel Comic).
- Required Information in Email Body:
- Author's real name and pen name (if any)
- First 4 digits of ID card number
- Work title
- Work description (max 200 words)
- Contact phone number
- Email address
Timeline & Evaluation
- Submission Period: From now until October 6, 2014.
- Judging Criteria:
- Artwork & Composition: 30%
- Storytelling: 40%
- Creativity: 30%
- Results Announcement: Mid-November 2014 on the Facebook pages of '散漫學會' (Macau Creative) and 'Illusion Feather 同人文化祭'. Winners will be notified personally. Award ceremony date to be announced.
Important Notes
- Entries must be original and unpublished in any form.
- Entries cannot be submitted to other competitions before the results are announced. Violation will lead to disqualification.
- Content must not contain excessive eroticism, violence, or other disturbing elements.
- The organizer reserves the right to publish, use, produce, exhibit, and use the entries for promotional purposes related to the competition.
- Copyright and usage rights of winning works belong to the organizer.
- Participants are deemed to agree to all the above terms and conditions.
- The organizer holds the final right of interpretation of these rules.
