The Macau Tourism Bureau (MGTO) hosts a series of celebratory events during the Lunar New Year, bringing festive joy to residents and visitors alike.
Event Highlights
- Kick-off Celebration: Held on the first day of the Lunar New Year (January 31) at Ruins of St. Paul's Square and Senado Square.
- Main Attractions: The "Galloping Horses Parade" takes place on the third and ninth days of the Lunar New Year in the New Port Area and Northern District.
First Day Activities (January 31)
- Joint celebration with the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau and industry representatives.
- Stage performances, a 238-meter-long golden dragon parade, and 18 lion dance troupes.
- Firecracker display.
- Distribution of "lai see" (red packets) and golden ingots by guests, the God of Wealth, and the Three Star Gods at Senado Square.
- The Tourism Bureau continues its tradition of distributing festive "lai see" at its visitor information counters throughout the holiday.
Dragon & Lion Parade Route
The grand parade starts at the Ruins of St. Paul's and proceeds through Senado Square, Government Headquarters, Lilau Square, A-Ma Temple, and Sai Van Lake Square, spreading blessings across the city.
"Galloping Horses Parade" (Main Event)
Held on the third day (February 2) and ninth day (February 8) of the Lunar New Year with the theme "Galloping Horses Illuminate Macau".
Third Day Parade (February 2)
- Start Time & Location: 8:00 PM at the forecourt of Macao Science Center.
- Route: Proceeds along Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen to Sai Van Lake Square near Macau Tower.
- Live Broadcast: Screens will be set up at Macao Science Center, Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Nam Van, Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Center, Rua de Pedro Coutinho, Iao Hon Market Garden, and the forecourt of Taipa Fire Station.
- Stage Performance: At 8:45 PM at Sai Van Lake Square. Some parade troupes will perform on stage upon arrival.
- Fireworks Display: At 10:00 PM.
Ninth Day Parade (February 8)
- Start Location: Avenida do Conselheiro Borja.
- End Location: Iao Hon Market Garden, with stage performances.
Parade Details
- Second year of the parade event.
- 13 parade floats participate.
- 1,038 performers from 31 groups representing Mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, Portugal, Taiwan (China), Indonesia, South Korea, and Macau perform along the route.
Interactive Element
- The Tourism Bureau collaborates with CTM to launch an SMS game. On the third night, the public can vote for their favorite local performance group. The winning group will be invited to participate in the "Popular Street Parade" in Lisbon, Portugal.
Float Exhibition
- Parade floats will be exhibited at Sai Van Lake Square and Tap Seac Square after the events.
Event Vision
The Tourism Bureau aims to establish this as an annual signature event for Macau, enhancing the city's charm and festive atmosphere. It aligns with community tourism initiatives by distributing visitors to different districts through diverse and exciting activities.
