About the Competition
The Huacan Award Cross-Strait Young Design Competition (Huacan Award) is organized to promote integrated development across the strait, foster exchange and interaction among young people in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, deepen cultural exchange, enhance cultural identity, facilitate win-win cooperation in cultural and creative industries, and improve the quality of talent cultivation for art and design university students. The call for entries for the Macau region of the 8th Huacan Award is now open!
Competition Theme
Integration
Eligibility
- The competition is divided into two groups: University Student Group and Young Designer Group.
- University teachers, students, and designers aged 45 or below (born after February 28, 1978) are eligible to participate.
Key Entry Guidelines
- No entry fee is required.
- Author Limit: No more than 5 authors per entry.
- Instructor Limit: No more than 2 instructors per entry.
- Multiple entries are allowed, but the same or a series of works cannot be submitted multiple times or under different categories/groups.
- Entries must be submitted only in the participant's home region (based on household registration, study, or work location). Cross-region submissions are prohibited.
- Works that have won awards in previous editions of this competition are not eligible.
- Physical works will generally not be returned after the competition. Return shipping costs are borne by the participant.
- Originality is mandatory. Plagiarism will result in disqualification and a 3-year ban.
Competition Structure & Awards
- The competition follows a three-tier system: University-level, Regional-level, and National-level.
- The Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan regions (and the cooperation group) do not have regional-level competitions or awards; entries proceed directly to the national-level judging.
- Total National Prize Pool:
- Main Track: RMB 500,000
- Themed Track: RMB 100,000
- Grand Prize (2 awards, one per group): RMB 50,000 each, plus free assistance with patent applications.
- Numerous First, Second, and Third prizes are also available.
Additional National Awards & Benefits
- Winners will be invited to become members of the "Huacan (Kunshan) Design Center".
- Opportunity for free residency at the "Huacan Workshop" co-working spaces in Beijing, Chengdu, Zhuhai, and Kunshan.
- Access to entrepreneurial services including virtual registration, startup coaching, investment incubation, and market matching.
- Opportunity for winning works/designers to be included in the committee's "Key Project Recommendation Plan" for market transformation.
- Incubation platform support to help realize design proposals and create prototypes.

Submission Process & Timeline
- Create your work based on the theme and register online at the official website: www.huacanjiang.com.
- Ensure all information is accurate and complete. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
- Upload your work by the deadline: February 28, 2023, 17:00 (System closes).
- Eligibility and work review (for Macau entries, reviewed by the National Committee).
- National judging (April 2023). Official award notifications after the public announcement.
- National award ceremony (May 2023).
- Download electronic award certificates from the official website.
